This book is a guide to daily happiness for children. It compares a bucket to the container that holds our self-esteem and encourages children to fill others’ and their own buckets daily. When someone hurts another person the action is referred to as ‘bucket dipping.’ This book helps children (and adults) to understand the important concept of building up others, helping them to feel good about themselves, with the bonus of feeling good about one’s self for having filled the bucket of another.

A must read book on my list is Have You Filled a Bucket Today. Through simple prose and vivid illustrations, this heartwarming book encourages positive behavior as children see how rewarding it is to express daily kindness, appreciation, and love.
This book explains to children that we all carry an invisible bucket in which we keep our feelings about ourselves. When our buckets are full, we are happy; when they are empty, we are sad. It is important to know that we can fill our own bucket and so can others. We fill buckets by saying nice things to the people around us. We fill buckets by doing nice things for people.

Discipline Plan
I use a pocket chart with colored cards as a visual to monitor student behavior. This allows the child to “see” his or her behavioral progress at all times.
Ways to Follow the Class Rules
1. Always Follow Directions
2. Pay Attention in Class
3. Complete Classwork
4. Use Self Control
5. Always Have Acceptable Behavior in the LUNCHROOM
6. Always Have Acceptable Behavior in the HALLWAYS and RESTROOM
7. Listen MORE than You TALK
8. Respect Others
Consequences
Yellow card 1st offense – 3 pts off of conduct
Consequence – limited from an activity
Student will write a letter to parent
Orange card 2nd offense – 3 pts off of conduct
Consequence – Silent lunch, loss of recess, or loss of snack
Student will write a letter to parent
Red card 3rd offense – 3 pts off of conduct
Consequence – silent lunch, loss of recess, and / or class isolation
Student will write a letter to parent
Teacher will contact parent
Rare situations:
- If a child’s card is continually red, he or she will be sent to the office for a consequence.
- If a child’s conduct grade is a D or F, he or she will be sent to the office.
Please know, we follow the St. Clair County Code of Conduct, please refer to pages 44-52. If a code is violated, depending on the class, a child may be sent immediately to the office.
Reward System
Student will be rewarded for good behavior through Rockin' Good Behavior, chances to go to the prize box, and getting to go to a conduct party.
Documentation
A checkmark on your child's conduct sheet indicates that a rule was broken. Each nine weeks, the student will begin with 100 points. Each check-mark is minus THREE points. If there are no checkmarks and the week is highlighted through, then no cards pulled and thus there were no deductions to the student's conduct points. Please sign this sheet weekly.
If a child pulls a card, then he or she will write a letter to you telling you what caused the card to be pulled and update you on his or her current conduct score.
If a child has to write a letter home explaining why they pulled a card, it will look similar to this....
